The Florida International Teaching Zoo has a twenty year history of educating professional
Zoo animal caregivers. Graduates are employed in AZA/ ZAA zoos, wildlife and higher
educational institutions. Our diverse collection is designed to give students
practical experience with classes of animals they will encounter in their future careers.
We are known for our breeding successes with the Jaguar, African Patas monkeys,
and the Nene geese, the fourth most endangered bird in North America.
The Florida International Teaching Zoo promotes public education through conservation
and reproduction of endangered and rare animals. The staff offers distance learning
programs in veterinary assistance, in-school webinars, zoo professional continuing
education, zoo tours, DVD courses, and a professional zoo management training program.
During the one year academic and hands-on Zoo Animal Management Program the
“zoo” students feed, clean, build exhibits, and enrich the zoo animals while receiving
evening lectures on subjects including taxonomy, exhibit design, medicine,
animal husbandry, zoo ethics, and public management.
